Kejuaraan Sepak Bola Eropa UEFA 2012, atau lebih dikenal dengan Euro 2012, akan menjadi Kejuaraan antar tim nasional sepak bola yang diselenggarakan oleh UEFA yang ke 14. Putaran final akan diselenggarakan oleh Polandia dan Ukraina antara 8 Juni dan 1 Juli 2012. Ini adalah pertama kalinya bagi kedua negara (Polandia dan Uraina) menyelenggarakan suatu turnamen besar. Pemilihan tuan rumah dilaksanakan oleh Komite Eksekutif UEFA pada tahun 2007.


Putaran final ini diikuti 16 (enam belas) negara, hal ini menjadi yang terakhir karena sejak Kejuaraan Sepak Bola Eropa UEFA 2016 dan seterusnya, akan diikuti oleh 24 (dua puluh empat) negara finalis. Babak Kualifikasi diikuti oleh 51 negara, telah diselenggarakan antara Agustus 2010 dan November 2011 yang memilih 14 (empat belas) negara untuk bergabung dengan kedua negara tuan rumah putaran final. Pemenang kejuaraan ini otomatis mewakili UEFA untuk mengikuti Piala Konfederasi FIFA 2013 yang akan diselenggarakan di Brasil. Namun peringkat kedua (runner up) dapat mengikuti Piala Konfederasi jika Spanyol menjadi juara pada kejuaraan ini, karena Spanyol telah lolos sebagai pemenang Piala Dunia FIFA 2010.

Kelompok anti rasisme pan-Eropa mengatakan pada Rabu waktu setempat atau Kamis WIB, bahwa mereka telah merekrut petugas untuk Euro 2012 di Polandia dan Ukraina, di tengah kekhawatiran mengenai hubungan antara organisasi ekstrem kanan dan perusuh sepak bola.


Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) mengatakan bahwa mereka ingin mengerahkan dua pengawas pada setiap pertandingan sepanjang kejuaraan Eropa, yang akan dimulai di Polandia pada Juni dan diakhiri di Ukraina pada 1 Juli.


"Memonitor lagu-lagu dan simbol-simbol rasis dan diskriminatif adalah elemen kunci program FARE untuk beberapa pertandingan sejak Euro 2004 di Portugal, Piala Dunia di Jerman pada 2006, dan Euro 2008 di Austria dan Swiss," kata FARE.


"Di Polandia dan Ukraina kebutuhan untuk memonitor dapat dikatakan akan lebih penting, karena meluasnya (penggunaan) spanduk-spanduk ekstrem kanan dan potensi interaksi dan pelecehan rasial, homofobia, dan bentuk-bentuk lain."




FARE akan bekerja sama dengan organisasi sepak bola Eropa, UEFA, dan gerakan anti rasisme yang berbasis di Warsawa, Never Again, yang saat didirikan pada 1996 merupakan kampanye Polandia pertama yang berfokus pada sepak bola.


"Suatu protokol akan dikembangkan dan ditempatkan untuk melaporkan insiden pada UEFA, dengan harapan bahwa jika sudah cukup bukti tersedia maka setiap kasus akan mendapat sanksi sebagai hasilnya," ungkap FARE.


Menjelang Euro 2012, Never Again telah memberikan latihan anti-rasisme untuk seluruh pengurus stadion yang berjumlah 7.000 orang, yang akan bekerja di liga domestik setelah Euro usai.


Ini adalah pertama kalinya turnamen Euro dilangsungkan di bekas negara `tirai besi.`




Spanduk-spanduk ekstrem kanan atau lagu-lagu yang menyerang pemain-pemain berkulit hitam - pada wilayah-wilayah di mana komunitas non kulit putih merupakan minoritas - terlihat pada liga-liga lokal.
